The Border Table
Sources & Method
Every deeper claim should have a reason to be trusted. The method begins with primary and institutional evidence, then uses careful comparison and visible limits.
Source order
- Original records, archives, period menus and cookbooks, oral histories used with permission, government guidance, and scholarly research.
- Museums, universities, historical societies, recognized culinary institutions, and documented specialist works.
- Credible journalism, interviews, and books with transparent sourcing.
- Practitioner sources for technique comparison, identified as practitioner guidance rather than historical proof.
- General recipe sites only to understand contemporary variation—not as sole evidence for an origin claim.
Recipe development
The supplied recipe is preserved. A separate working version is audited for ingredient-step consistency, yield, timing, temperature, safety, ambiguity, and defining character. Material changes are recorded rather than silently replacing the source.
Use of AI
AI may help locate questions, compare documented methods, organize notes, draft plain-language explanations, generate editorial image candidates, and check internal consistency. It cannot taste, smell, test a recipe, grant permission, determine family intent, or convert an inference into fact.
